The way local government is organised in England varies in different parts
of the country. In some places, one Council called a 'unitary Council', (provides all the
local government services - in others there might be two or three ‘tiers’
or different types of Councils who provide these services between them).
There are many different types of Councils, Metropolitan Boroughs, Unitary,
County Councils etc. In Lancashire we have a 'County
Council'.
In Lancashire we have what is called a “two tier” system. This means we have two types of main local authorities both dealing with many services:
