What has this got to do with us? – Well, they provide ‘services’ which affect us all on a daily basis. Some of the important services the Councils have to provide by law and others they can decide whether they want to provide or not.
Lancashire County Council is the fourth biggest local authority in England. It has a population of 1,140,000 people and covers an area of 3,070 square kilometers.
The County Council provides more public services than any other organisation in Lancashire and spends over £1 billion each year providing those services.
